~ Olive Eggs

We have a nice Black Copper Marans cross hen in with our Cream Legbars. She lays a pretty dark egg for a cross and her egg color easily hits a 4 on the Marans egg color chart. This darker brown egg layer in with the Cream Legbar that lays blue eggs should give us nice olive eggers. We only have this one hen at the time, so eggs and chicks are not plentiful. But, we think they make up for it in what they will bring to a back yard flock.

Most of the chicks we hatched were black, but we got some adorable yellow chicks as well. The black chicks have turned into black hens with good copper in the hackles and sporting crests. The males are barred. The yellow chicks have gotten some neat coloring and they remind me of Fiesta here in Texas with their multi coloring.

Because this cross has been so fun and we are looking to get some olive eggs, we are looking for other similar hens to give us those dark olive eggs. They will be Marans crosses that lay a dark egg so we get nice olive eggers in the cross. Since we need desire to breed with a purpose, having cockerels that get to a good weight for processing makes this cross a useful dual purpose bird.
