Olive Egging

Isbar/Silverudds Blue cross cockerel

In addition to our Isbars and Legbars, we are also breeding birds that will lay a nice dark olive green egg. We have a Black Copper Maran in with some Cream Legbars that I do not want to use in my Legbar breeding program. They are regular layers of sky blue eggs, and combined with the dark brown egg of the Maran, we should get some nice dark olive egg laying hens.

In addition to the Maran and Legbar cross, I have a dark olive egg laying hen in with our splash Isbar. She is a cross between Black Copper Maran and an Americana. Her eggs are a beautiful deep green color and I am hoping to get more of them. We hatched out a few of these dark olive eggs and the result has been some lively blue cockerels with feathers legs and whiskers. These birds are getting the Maran size with the body type of the Isbar. Since I only hatched an egg here and there... we have ended up with cockerels until now. I finally have a young pullet and she is black with the copper in her hackles. I cannot wait until she start to lay to see what color her eggs are. Our next and last hatch of the year will be our Olive Eggers.. so hope to get a few more for breeding next year.
